Summer is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t experiencing that sweltering summer sun! If you’re staying in one of our Smoky Mountain cabins, you might be wondering where the best places to cool off in the National Park are located. Luckily, our cabins in Tennessee are a short drive to the National Park and some of the best places to take a dip or get some shade from the sun.

Here are the seven spots where you can cool off this summer:

  • Midnight Hole

If you’re feeling the effects of that summer heat, we totally understand. August and September can be sweltering months in the Smoky Mountains; it’s important to find a place you can take a refreshing dip. One of the National Park favorites happens to be a swimming hole called “Midnight Hole.” This swimming hole is located at the bottom of “Mouse Creek Falls”, a stunning Smoky Mountain waterfall. Bring your camera to this picturesque place to cool off! You won’t regret it!

  • Fishing Holes

If you have the proper fishing license, cool off by a fishing hole for the day! What better way to relax than spending the day at a Smoky Mountain fishing hole? The air is typically cooler by the water and of course, you can always splash yourself if you get too heated. Plus, you can catch dinner while getting your cool on! Bonus!

  • A Scenic Bike Ride

This activity can be enjoyed multiple places in the park. Biking, unlike walking, creates a steady breeze and cool down. Not only will you cool down, but you will get a great exercise and scenic path along the way! Bikes can be rented at several locations in the National Park. You are always welcome to bring your own bikes to the mountains for a scenic ride! Who doesn’t love a scenic bike ride through nature?

  • Chase Waterfalls!

Waterfalls are one of the many beauties that lie within the Smoky Mountains. There are several places to visit that offer waterfalls and breathtaking views. Not to mention, the waterfalls provide a refreshing mist to cool you off on a hot summer day. You can even catch some of the water in your hands and splash your face to experience the fresh water of the Smokies.

  • Picnics! (Metcalf Bottoms)

Swimming hole and a picture perfect picnic? Yes, please! Metcalf Bottoms is a great place to cool off and grab a bite to eat. The area offers pavilions and covered areas for shade to enjoy an afternoon meal. Afterward, dip your feet in the river for a Smoky Mountain cool down on a hot summer day. Metcalf Bottoms is a popular destination for visitors and locals! Rent your pavilion ahead of time and plan ahead for a wonderful summer afternoon!

  • Overlooks

The top of trails and hikes are significantly lower in temperature, making for a great cool off spot! The National Park has several overlooks and hikes to choose from! Decide what area of the park you wish to visit and what views you would like to see and start your hiking adventure! With the summer sun and hiking, you will definitely enjoy the breeze from the top!

Although our cabins aren’t technically located in the National Park, they are very close and offer a cool place to enjoy the mountains! Sit on the porch and enjoy the mountain breeze or sit inside in the air conditioning and enjoy the views. Our Smoky Mountain cabins are the perfect place to cool off and enjoy a cold drink on a hot summer day. See for yourself!
