Very nice cabin. We hoped to see some bears and bears we saw. No dangerous close encounters but several times we stood on deck and watched bears come out of woods and continue up the mountain. Nice and quiet in a great location. We would definitely stay here again.

Management Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to review Black Bear Chalet. Yes ma'am, the bears have been VERY active this year, especially up in your area. Glad you got to see some. Looking forward to seeing y'all again one day.

The cabin was absolutely beautiful and so much fun to drive up the mountain to get to it. Very quiet and private with amazing views from all bedrooms and living room, and decks. Loved that there are 3 decks off every bedroom. Absolutely spotlessly clean. Diane was so nice and funny. She waited late at the office for a few minutes so we could get there due to crazy traffic the whole way from Asheville. Beautiful secluded, spotless cabin. You cannot ask for anything better. Worth the money. Will stay here again guaranteed

Management Response: Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback from your recent stay. We are always looking for ways to improve where it it needed.

Although We live in Knoxville, we love driving 45 minutes for a week in the mountains. Since one of us loves to paint for relaxation and ther other likes to read/walk, we're always looking for cabins with good views. This cabin would be good for families that want to visit Dollywood, and we went to dinner in Gatlinburg a few times.

-- There are three things that make staying at this cabin GREAT. (1) The views - Excellent views of Wears Valley and the mountains around it. (2) Great decks from which to relax and enjoy the views. (3) Location - This cabin is 5-7 minutes off of the main road. We have stayed in other cabins that take 20-40 minutes to get back to the main road. AND same distance from Metcalf Bottoms, not many cabins can say that!!!

-- The house was very clean and comfortable. While the house is ideal for a family of 2-6 people, I would be hesitant to combine families since the house is not really built for "private" space (two bedrooms with doors)... being more of a communal space. (Some houses that we've rented allow more private space, which is important to us.)

-- We lucked into seeing Mama Bear and 3 cubs. I heard a scream from spouse and went to investigate as he was just starting charcoal fire. Also the hummingbirds were in residence.

My only issues were that downstairs had a heavy mold odor and the mirror behind the spa tub housed mold growing above and below it and spiders must be living behind the mirror... I killed spiders every day in the spa tub.

We have visited the Smokies and Wears Valley many times, and have done most of the local attractions, so this time we just wanted a beautiful, clean and quiet place to just relax and unwind. And to spend lots of time in Cades Cove visiting with the bears. I could not have picked a better location or a more relaxing cabin. We loved it. It far exceeded our expectations. Our only complaint is that we eventually had to wake up from dreamland and come back home to jobs, stress and just everyday this and that. But our time there will be fondly remembered and we will return as soon as we can. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful home with us.

Great property. April is a little early for Christmas decorations though.

Robert Rausch - 4/18/2015   5/55/55/55/55/5

Black Bear Chalet was a fantastic place. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It also has great views of Wears Valley, high up on the hill. It only takes 5 minutes to enter the National Park, bypassing all the traffic of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The staff at Great Cabins made this a pleasant no hassle experience as well. This was our second time using them and would again. And we would stay at Black Bear Chalet again. All in all a great stay.

Dan & Debbie Minnix - 12/2/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

As always it was perfect. We have used Great Cabins for the past 8 to 10 years an if it wasn't what my husband and I had wanted, we wouldn't have gone back even the second time. The staff at Great Cabins are wonderful.

Lisa Hammons - 10/21/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

Black Bear Chalet is our favorite rental, so far! The views are spectacular from all 3 decks, the cabin was clean and well maintained; and although we knew there were other cabins close by, it was really quiet and seemed like we were the only ones for miles around. We hope it's available next year!

Jason Turner - 9/30/2014   4/54/54/54/54/5

This cabin had beautiful views. Very roomy! Advertised as a 2 bedroom but actually had 3 bedrooms all with king size beds and there own bathroom. WARNING: 1) Step road to cabin may be dangerous in winter. 2)When we stayed there was an extremely loud hum on bottom level around pool room and bottom bedroom (sounded like power transformer). This could be uncomfortable to sleep with. Other than that this cabin was awesome!

Management Response: Jason, Thanks for taking the time to post some great comments. We are checking out the 'humming' noise to see what we can do to rectify that. Thanks again!

Donald Ide - 8/13/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

The place is just as described and pictured. It is very quiet up on the mountain and the interior really feels relaxing and cozy. It is located conveniently between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. It is like your own private road to Gatlinburg! The hot tub and the Jacuzzi tub are highly recommended. The pool table provided hours of fun and the deck on each floor were a great way to end the night. I highly recommend this property as well as Great Cabins in the Smokies. Nothing at all negative to say! Great trip, Great Place, Great Cabin!

Dianne Fleming - 7/28/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

The location was perfect and the shortcut to Metcalf was great. The views were so amazing. The cabin was perfect with any and everything you needed. The hottub was located with perfect views and the beds were so comfortable. I enjoyed being in a location away from the traffic and centrally located where you were close to everything. Townsend was right up the road in one direction and Gatlinburg wasn't far either. The folks were very nice and helpful at the office and made our stay great and easy. Highly reccomend! Worth every penny!

Amruthalatha Pagadala - 7/7/2014   4/54/54/54/54/5

Those who love to drive steep valley curved roads and adventurous stay this place will be ideal. Frequent visit of bears at the backyard was fearful. But if you like quiet stay zero traffic noise this will be apt. The home is beautiful and well maintained. View from patio is Fabulous. Having curtains would have been helpful at nights. To see view you can always open the curtains. This home is surrounded by densed forest. Glad we didn't get any snakes at home. Rest all is great adventurous experience. My family loved it.

James Moody - 6/27/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

We had an excellent time! This is a beautiful cabin, with great views from all three floors of the cabin. Centrally located just a little way from the intersection of Wears Valley Road and Lyons Spring Road. High enough up the mountain for great views, but not so far up that it is problematic. We saw a black bear and turkeys on the road up the mountain. This is a perfect cabin for families or two or three couples looking to get away. Plenty of bathrooms and privacy. The absolute only problem we had was the water pressure when the washing machine was used, but Great Cabins came and fixed it immediately and we never had the problem again. Great great visit!!

Deborah Jeschke - 6/9/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

We had a wonderful time. From being able to change our dates of stay, due to sickness, to our cute little "Princess" at the front desk, everything was great. One small problem were some bugs that seemed to enjoy the chalet too, but then, who could blame them. Loved it all. Thanks so much for everything.

Darla Metcalfe - 5/28/2014   4/54/54/54/54/5

Cabin was beautiful but the beds were old and need to be updated - mattress ok but box springs creaked more than my bones! Kitchen is fully equipped. Major complaint was that you could not adjust the air conditioner and so it was extremely hot (80 is not cool) when the weather changed! All in all a great cabin.

Management Response: Wanted to let you know that we sent HVAC service out to check the air after beiing notified and found that the HVAC was not working properly, as you suggested! We are so sorry. The owners have jumped on the problem and already installed a new HVAC unit at the cabin. Just wanted you to know.

Jeff Riddle - 4/28/2014   5/55/55/55/55/5

The cabin was very clean and more spacious than advertised. Location made it easy to access the road into the mountains and was only 20 minutes from pigeon forge. We had a great time and will visit the Smokies again soon and we'll stay at this cabin when we do.
